THEThe 20th edition of the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Games starts today, Saturday, and continues until February 14, with organizers calling the event a historic achievement that celebrates 40 years of unity, teamwork, and outstanding performance in the industry, according to PUNCH Sports Extra.

At a pre-event media conference, Dr Sulaiman Sulaiman, Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee, stated that the 2026 Games will gather approximately 1,200 athletes participating in 13 different sports.

As per his statement, attendees will come from 15 oil and gas firms, regulatory bodies, and related organizations, positioning the event as one of the biggest corporate sports events in Nigeria.

Sulaiman pointed out that NOGIG, which started in 2006, has evolved into the leading biennial sports event for the oil and gas sector, encouraging communication between multinational oil companies, local operators, and government agencies.

He mentioned that the Games extend beyond mere competition, acting as a medium for advancing employee well-being, perseverance, and sector unity, while fostering healthy competition based on professionalism and common principles.

“For four decades, NOGIG has played a role in boosting connections throughout the industry, connections that still contribute to better cooperation and operational effectiveness,” Sulaiman stated.

He also emphasized the larger national importance of the event, referring to Nigeria’s oil and gas sector as a vital component of the economy and a major factor in global energy provision.

“At a moment when the worldwide energy scene is changing quickly, platforms like NOGIG highlight the principles that support advancement, collaboration, dedication, quality, diversity, and common goals,” he added.

Sulaiman further pledged to stakeholders that the LOC is dedicated to hosting a thoroughly organized and accessible event.

He mentioned that the committee, consisting of representatives from the 15 involved organizations, with NNPC Limited acting as the Secretariat, is dedicated to maintaining safety, fairness, and integrity during the Games.

“Starting from February 8 to 14, we encourage the media, industry professionals, and people around the world to participate in honoring four decades of unity via sports,” he stated.

The 20th edition of NOGIG is more than a milestone, it highlights that teamwork, health, and common goals continue to be central to Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.

The 2026 Games are anticipated to conclude with recognition and accolades for exceptional teams and athletes, as the sector honors four decades of athletic heritage and collaboration.
