The Information Technology Faculty at Sindh Madressatul Islam University (SMIU), in partnership with the Business Incubation Centre (BIC) and the Office of Research, Innovation, and Commercialization (ORIC), hosted TechFest 2.0 at the I.T. Tower of SMIU. The event was launched by Vice Chancellor of SMIU Dr. Mujeeb Sahrai, alongside Prof. Dr. Abdul Hafeez Khan, Dean of the Faculty of Information Technology, deans from different faculties, and senior university officials. The vice chancellor toured several project booths, where students presented their concepts, approaches, and anticipated effects on society.
More than 160 senior undergraduate students from the Department of Computer Science, the Department of Software Engineering, and the Department of Artificial Intelligence and Mathematical Sciences presented their projects. The event offered a complete display of students’ creative concepts, analytical abilities, and research with practical applications. Approximately 25 professionals from the industry attended the exhibition and gave meaningful expert opinions to the participants.
Speaking to the attendees, Vice Chancellor Dr. Mujeeb Sahrai expressed great admiration for the quality, variety, and social significance of the projects presented. He motivated students to keep turning their concepts into tangible solutions, highlighting that these creative endeavors can help tackle actual global and community issues. He also pledged that SMIU will remain committed to backing research, innovation, and business development efforts to close the divide between educational institutions and the corporate world.
The Dean of the Faculty of Information Technology, Prof. Dr. Abdul Hafeez Khan, praised the students and faculty for their dedication and collaborative efforts, highlighting the significance of project-based learning in developing graduates who are prepared for the industry. Dr. Mansoor Ahmed Khuhro, head of the Department of Artificial Intelligence and Mathematical Sciences at SMIU, stated that the exhibition showcases the effort, imagination, and creative problem-solving abilities of students, which have been developed through the guidance of committed faculty members, and underlined the importance of such events in fostering academic quality and relevance to the industry.
At the end of the gathering, the vice chancellor distributed memorabilia to the industry assessors as a token of appreciation for their significant time, knowledge, and role in guiding and evaluating student projects.
