The Agency for the Sebou River Basin started releasing water from the Idriss I Dam on Sunday, with a flow rate of approximately 84 cubic meters per second, according to officials.
The launch is organized in collaboration with the provincial authorities of Sidi Kacem to guarantee safety protocols in the lower areas following recent intense rain and floods in the area.
As of Sunday morning, the Idriss I Dam was 84.64% filled, up from 24.85% during the same period last year, containing approximately 956 million cubic meters of water. In total, the Sebou Basin is at 85.55% of its capacity, with the Allal El Fassi Dam at 95.47% and the Oued Al Wahda Dam at 88.86%, while four medium-sized dams have reached full capacity.
Recent water discharges from these dams have submerged large areas of agricultural land in the Gharb plains, especially in the Kenitra and Sidi Kacem regions, cutting off some rural areas. Officials in the Sebou and Loukkos basins have been working under “exceptional mobilization” since the recent storms, including Storm Marta.
