A fire in Gyeongju, North Gyeongsang Province, that had been completely under control following 20 hours of efforts, has flared up again.

On the 8th, the Korea Forest Service stated that it would require additional time to completely control the fire, as embers flared up again around 8:20 p.m. that day.

The fire, which started near Andong Intersection, is moving towards the peak as powerful winds have increased the area affected by the flames.

Earlier that day at 6 p.m., forest officials, who had managed to contain the primary fire and deployed staff and gear for checking embers, are encountering challenges in putting out the flames because of the rekindling.

The area that has flared up is said to be hard to reach because of its steep incline and high ground. Furthermore, officials stated that helicopter flights cannot be conducted because of power lines, so they are setting up a protective barrier.

The fire broke out at approximately 9:40 PM on the 7th.
