The Lagos State authorities have closed down the Ladipo Spare Parts Market located on the Murtala Muhammed International Airport Road (Apapa–Oshodi Expressway) due to reported repeated violations of environmental regulations.

The Environment and Water Resources Commissioner, Tokunbo Wahab, revealed the update in a message posted on X on Sunday.

He stated, “The Lagos State government, this morning, closed down the Ladipo Spare Parts Market located on Murtala Muhammed International Airport Road (Apapa–Oshodi Expressway) due to repeated environmental violations; uncontrolled waste dumping on the median/highway and unauthorized street vending. #ZeroToleranceLagos.”

The well-known component center in Mushin was closed as part of the state’s continuous effort to enforce environmental regulations and prevent informal selling and incorrect waste management.

The marketplace has encountered penalties for comparable matters before.

PUNCH Online stated in 2023 that the Lagos State Government reopened Ladipo Market once it fulfilled the required environmental and cleanliness standards.

In a statement issued then, Kadiri Folashade, the Public Affairs Director at the Lagos State Ministry of Environment and Water Resources, mentioned that the market was permitted to restart its activities following adherence to established waste management protocols.

Wahab further highlighted that the administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu gives significant importance to environmental cleanliness, public health, and safety in accordance with the THEMES Plus initiative, underlining that markets throughout the state must follow waste management best practices closely.

The sealing on Sunday suggests increased enforcement efforts due to worries about adherence to rules at the market.
