Moroccan agricultural officials started providing animal feed to farmers impacted by floods in the countryside near Ksar el-Kebir on Sunday, after requests from local livestock owners and farmers.

The Loukkos Regional Office for Agricultural Development stated that the initiative includes the municipalities of Souakene, Oulad Ouchih, and Souk Tleta under a targeted emergency assistance program.

The assistance focuses on farmers participating in dairy cooperatives who are raising cattle, along with sheep farmers in areas impacted by floods, as per initial information.

Youssef Bensjai, who leads agricultural development at the Loukkos office, mentioned that the initiative started from the Douar Drrabla region in Souakene and is set to assist breeders of approximately 23,800 cows and 35,000 goats.

During the initial stage, officials will distribute 568 metric tons of cattle feed and 163 metric tons of sheep feed, Bensjai said to local media.

He mentioned that the initiative is among wider actions aimed at assisting farmers dealing with significant flooding, noting that evaluations are still in progress to assess the total impact on agriculture. Preliminary estimates suggest that around 19,000 hectares of farmland have been flooded, a number that may increase in the days ahead.

Bensjai encouraged farmers to unite and help each other in facing the crisis, emphasizing that the Agriculture Ministry in the Tangier–Tetouan–Al Hoceima area is striving to offer ongoing support to those impacted.
