The Lagos State authorities have closed the Ladipo Spare Parts Market located in the Mushin region due to ongoing violations of environmental regulations.

The crackdown came after ongoing instances of uncontrolled garbage dumping on the road divider and motorway, along with unauthorized street vending inside and near the market.

The Environment and Water Resources Commissioner, Mr Tokunbo Wahab, verified the situation in a statement released on Sunday, stating that the move became necessary following repeated alerts to merchants that were reportedly disregarded.

Wahab stated, “The Ladipo Spare Parts Market has been closed because of the ongoing uncontrolled waste dumping on the median and road, as well as unauthorized street vending along the Apapa–Oshodi Expressway.”

The emergence occurs alongside multiple enforcement measures taken by the Lagos State Government targeting markets that have been discovered to breach environmental and cleanliness standards.

PUNCH Metroreported in July 2024 that personnel from the Lagos Waste Management Authority and the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps closed down the Oja Oba Market located in the Ile Epo area of the state due to unsatisfactory hygiene standards.

In October 2024, PUNCH Metro stated that the Lagos State Government closed Itedo Market in Lekki permanently due to ongoing environmental breaches and unauthorized street vending.
