Exports during the first ten days of this month increased by 44.4% compared to the same period in the previous year, breaking the record for the initial ten days of a month. This increase was fueled by semiconductor exports, which grew more than twofold (2.4 times) due to the global surge in artificial intelligence (AI).
As reported by the Korea Customs Service on the 11th, exports between the 1st and 10th of this month totaled $21.4 billion, representing a 44.4% rise compared to the same period in the previous year. With 7.5 working days—0.5 days more than last year—the average daily export value increased by 34.8%. This is the best export performance for the first 10 days of a month, exceeding the previous record of $20.5 billion set in December of last year.

Semiconductor exports surged by 137.6% to reach $6.729 billion in comparison to the same period in the previous year. Computer peripherals (up 90.2%), home appliances (up 36.4%), and petroleum products (up 40.1%) also played a role in the increase in early February exports. On the other hand, exports of ships fell by 29% and passenger cars dropped by 2.6%.
Exports to the U.S. grew by 38.5%, while shipments to China (54.1%) and Vietnam (38.1%) also saw increases. During the same time, imports reached $20.7 billion, marking a 21.1% rise. Exports outpaced imports, leading to a trade surplus of $600 million.
