Pakistan, February 11 — The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa administration announced on Tuesday its intention to form a specialized sub-committee to oversee progress on development projects and “assess any military actions” taking place in specific regions.

A high-level meeting held at the Corps Headquarters in Peshawar resulted in the decision to assess the general security conditions within the province.

As per a document, the gathering included Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, KP Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, the national security advisor, and the Peshawar corps chief, along with high-ranking civilian and military personnel.

The press statement mentioned that at the beginning of the meeting, participants honored the civilians and security officers who were killed in terrorist incidents.

The top-level meeting concluded that the Pakistan Super League (PSL) games planned for this year will take place in Peshawar.

As per the declaration, the gathering chose to introduce a regional administration system in the Malakand Division, under the oversight of the police and other local organizations.

It mentioned that the model would subsequently be rolled out in “stages across the affected areas, especially Khyber, Orakzai, and Kurram”.

The official statement mentioned that to guarantee the proper “monitoring of development initiatives and evaluation of any security activities” in these areas, a dedicated sub-committee would be established under the direction of CM Afridi. It was agreed that the committee will convene monthly.

The statement mentioned that the special sub-committee would also consist of elected public representatives, the Peshawar corps commander, the KP chief secretary, the inspector general, provincial officials, and delegates from federal institutions.

The special sub-committee would also be tasked with “developing options for alternative jobs, maintaining a stable income for residents” and setting up measures to handle the concerns of those temporarily displaced, according to the statement.

At the meeting, it was agreed that “effective dialogue between the Centre and the KP government, full cooperation, and a unified approach will be maintained on important policy issues to tackle challenges like terrorism.”

It was also agreed to encourage sustainable job opportunities in order to stop young people from embracing extremist thoughts. The gathering also resolved to implement strict measures against unauthorized SIM cards, explosive substances, and extortion, as decided by the meeting.

“Furthermore, the statement mentioned that consideration will be given to the staged analysis of non-custom paid vehicles,”.
