An elderly man in his 60s, who murdered his wife, was taken into custody by the authorities. His wife had been suffering from poor health, which was exacerbated by financial difficulties.

The Boeun Police Station in North Chungcheong Province stated on the 11th that it has detained Mr. A over allegations of murder and is currently conducting an investigation.

Mr. A is charged with the murder of his wife, Ms. B (in her 60s), at a motel in Boeun-eup, Boeun County, on the 9th.

Following the administration of sedative medication to his wife, Mr. A contacted emergency services at approximately 8 a.m. on the 10th, stating, “My wife appears to have died.”

The situation came to light when a physician, who noticed signs of suffocation on the wife after she was taken to a hospital, informed the authorities.

As per the police inquiry, Mr. A mentioned, “We were facing financial problems, and my wife’s health had also worsened. We consumed sleeping pills with the aim of ending our lives.”

The couple, who received basic living support, had been residing in a single-room apartment without any children. The inquiry found that they had planned a mutual suicide and checked into the motel on the day of the incident.

A law enforcement officer stated, “Mr. A had 5,000,000 South Korean won in cash, which he said was intended for their funeral costs. We are looking into the precise reason behind the incident.”

The authorities intend to request a bench warrant for Mr. A.
