Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick’s latest statementConcerns raised by a Republican regarding U.S. senators’ connection to convicted child offender Jeffrey Epstein could potentially jeopardize their positions, as per one Republican.

Semafor reported TuesdayLutnick’s appearance before the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice, Science and Related Agencies could have further alienated Republicans, while Democrats are urging his departure. An unidentified Republican senator mentioned to the source that Lutnick would probably be dismissed “if it weren’t for President Trump” in the White House.

It’s disgraceful. And everyone is aware of it,” the Republican said to Semafor. “He looked at the American people and lied shamelessly. And I believe there’s more to come.

An unnamed senator expressed concern that his party would “suffer losses in the midterms,” and noted that if Democrats regained control of one or both houses of Congress, demands for responsibility would probably grow very loud. The official criticized Trump’s struggling Cabinet members for being “careless in assuming they will always remain in power,” and cautioned that Democrats might “target Lutnick, Bondi, and everyone else” in 2027.

Another unidentified source, referred to by Semafor as “connected to the White House,” shared with the publication that Epstein’s lack of transparency regarding his associations with Epstein — which encompasspurchasing a business together with himseven years after asserting he had severed connections with the convicted sex offender – this might be what leads him “out the door.” The source further stated that Lutnickvisiting Epstein’s infamous private islandwas “somewhat the red line.”

[The Trump administration is] typically skilled at offering consolation prizes to those they eliminate,” the White House source stated. “[It] hinges on how much of a hassle it turns into — if every member on the Hill and each cabinet official keeps being questioned about [it].

Although Congress is concerned, Trump has not yet indicated his intentions to penalize Lutnick. An unidentified senior White House advisor shared with Semafor that Trump has discussed several subjects with Lutnick, including U.S.-Canada trade issues. However, his connection to Epstein reportedly was not mentioned during these discussions.

The sole perspective that holds weight is the one in the Oval Office, and he shows no concern,” the advisor stated. “[He] didn’t mention it even once today.
