Bridget Jones star Leo Woodallhas shared how he almost missed out on a ‘heart-wrenching’ Netflix show due to only having two weeks to shed weight.
A 29-year-old from London is most recognized for appearing in an HBO series The White Lotusbefore he captivated audiences in 2025’s Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy.
Nevertheless, his part as the mischievous Jack in Mike White’s collection of episodes nearly led him to miss the opportunity of portraying Dexter in Netflix’s‘heartbreaking’ One Day.
Appearing on The Graham Norton Show on BBCTonight, Leo was joined by Stephen Graham from Adolescence, Kaley Cuoco from The Big Bang Theory, Adrian Lester, who has won an Olivier Award, and the British band Gorillaz.
When asked about his time on One Day, Leo said, “I almost didn’t take the role because I was shooting White Lotus and had fake tattoos on during my audition for One Day.”

He further mentioned that this process “is much more difficult than it appears.”
The actor from The White Lotus appeared alongsideAmbika Mod in the Netflix series, adapted from David Nicholls’ 2009 book with the same title.
The actress from “This Is Going To Hurt,” Ambika, portrayed Emma alongside Dexter, with their relationship spanning two decades, although audiences only witness a single day of the year, July 15.
The emotional pain and challenges of the characters are evident on screen, as well asmoments that have made us cry uncontrollably.
What was your opinion of One Day?
In response to the series upon its release, @F_199x commented on X that the show left them feeling unwell, stating: ‘This version was just as emotionally moving and elegant as the original novel.’
Brianna also wrote: ‘Pressing play, aware it will tear my heart apart once more.’
Additionally, chatting with Norton on the couch, Stephen, known for his role in Adolescence, described the success of his Netflix series as “truly unbelievable.”
We didn’t anticipate it. We simply captured a moment in the collective spirit, and its success has been astonishing.
When questioned about his new book, Letters to Our Sons, which was influenced by the series, he remarked: ‘The scope is enormous – it covers all aspects of life, all topics, and every type of father-son bond. It is something I am truly proud of.’
The 52-year-old performer is also featured in a new dark comedy thriller titled The Good Boy, which he described as a ‘very unusual little movie’.
It’s strange, but in a positive way. It features an excellent script, and I portray a remarkable character. He is unusual and quite unlike the roles I typically take on.
