Accra, February 13, GNA – Two individuals have appeared in the Adabraka District Court, accused of damaging a tombstone at the Osu Cemetery in Accra.

They include Eric Tawiah Annang, a 62-year-old builder, and Joseph Donkor, a 35-year-old worker.

The two individuals have been jointly accused of aiding in the crime, whereas Donkor is also facing an extra charge related to causing illegal damage to a tombstone worth GH¢4,500, which belongs to the Korle Klottey Municipal Assembly.

They denied the charges and were released on bail amounting to GH¢10,000 each, along with two guarantors. The court directed them to appear again on March 24, 2026.

Charging, Chief Inspector Apeweh Achana stated that the complainant served as the Head of the Korle Klottey Municipal Assembly Task Force. He mentioned that Annang lived in Osu, whereas Donkor was based at the Arts Centre in Accra.

On February 8, 2026, around 0800 hours, the Sexton of the Osu Cemetery, who is a witness in the case, went on a patrol due to claims of unauthorized grave excavation.

While on duty, the witness detected a sound and went to the location, where he is said to have discovered Donkor and a helper trying to unearth a burial site following damage to a headstone.

The witness told them to halt and join him at his office.

While traveling, Annang reportedly told the witness that he had hired Donkor and his partner for the job since he possessed a permit.

The prosecution stated that a Task Force unit reached the cemetery, but Donkor’s partner ran away.

Annang and Donkor were detained and brought to the Osu Police Station for questioning.

Chief Inspector Achana mentioned during the inquiry that Annang and Donkor confessed to the wrongdoing.
