Meghan’s separated father is showing ‘positive development’ in his attempts to walk again following the amputation of his left leg.amputated below the knee.

Thomas Markle, 81, reached a milestone on Friday by attending a Valentine’s Day gathering at the rehabilitation center in the Philippines where he is recovering from surgery.

In an interview with The Mail on Sunday yesterday, Mr. Markle mentioned that it was “great fun” to join other patients and nurses for a festive lunch, featuring red roses and chocolates.

The former Hollywood lighting director stated: ‘I am being treated very well and I appreciate all the excellent care I am receiving.’

Nevertheless, he has not received any communication from his daughter since she wrote to him a few days following the amputation of his leg in December.

Mr. Markle almost lost his life when a large clot in his left thigh blocked the blood flow to his foot.

Physicians had to remove his left leg below the knee in order to preserve his life.

He mentioned last night: “I am gradually adapting and undergoing extensive physiotherapy. I am feeling quite happy and have made good progress. I still have a long journey ahead, but I am becoming accustomed to my new situation.”

The gathering was the first occasion when Mr. Markle could don ‘regular’ attire — jeans and a blue shirt — rather than a hospital robe.

He is currently attending daily physiotherapy sessions and is optimistic that he will one day be able to obtain a prosthetic leg.

Mr Markle grew distant from Meghan on the day before her 2018 wedding to Harry. He has never met his son-in-law or his grandchildren, Archie, who is six, and Lilibet, who is four.

Mr. Markle has faced significant health challenges. He experienced two heart attacks just before his daughter’s wedding, which kept him from being there, and had a stroke in 2022.
