The Miami Dolphinshave released linebacker Bradley Chubb to save approximately $31 million against the salary cap for the 2026 season.
Chubb, 29, has earned two Pro Bowl selections and is currently seeking a new team for the upcoming season, a process that should not pose significant challenges for him.
However, for new Dolphins coach Jeff Hafley, losing a player like Chubb with his extensive experience will require finding a replacement, even though it creates some space on the salary cap.
The 2026 salary cap has not been officially announced by the NFL yet, but it is generally expected to exceed $300 million. However, considering this, it appears that Chubb’s time with the team was already limited.
As per NFL insider Ian Rapoport, Chubb was always going to be let go regardless of who took over as the Dolphins’ head coach following Mike McDaniel’s departure because of his contract salary.
Chubb, who has been based in Miami since 2022, is not the only prominent player expected to leave the Dolphins during what is predicted to be a major offseason of changes.

Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa is anticipated to depart following being replaced during the later part of the 2025 season. He has expressed that a new beginning is appealing to him, and even with McDaniel’s departure, this perspective is thought to remain unchanged.
Another major concern surrounds the future of star wide receiver Tyreek Hill, who was sidelined for most of the previous season due to a knee injury.
The Dolphins experienced a terrible beginning to the 2025 season, sitting at 1-6 before McDaniel helped his team find their rhythm and start winning. However, it was not enough for them to qualify for the playoffs – they ended up with a 7-10 record, placing third in the AFC East.
Hafley, on the other hand, is entering his first season as an NFL coach, leaving his position as the defensive coordinator for the Green Bay Packers to move to Florida.
