Michael Jordanhas caused division on social media regarding how he celebrated his NASCAR team’s historic Daytona 500 win by involving a young child.

The NBAThe icon was on the podium celebrating his team’s biggest victory when an incident involving driver Tyler Reddick’s six-year-old son, Beau, occurred.

Jordan was filmed seemingly reaching towards the young child’s lower back and rear area.

Critics have raised doubts about his actions, but supporters of Jordan argue that he was attempting to eliminate ice that had slipped into Beau’s shirt amid the chaotic festivities.

The Daily Mail has reached out to Jordan’s representatives, NASCAR, and 23XI Racing for input.

The video has now spread rapidly across social media platforms, with certain users swiftly condemning Jordan’s behavior.

One wrote: “I am unable to imagine a single situation where this is acceptable. Not even one.”

Another person remarked: “You can’t be doing this. Not at all, even if you’re a celebrity. That child appeared very uneasy.”

A third person added: “I think that was very inappropriate conduct by Michael Jordan.”

“Seems highly unsuitable to me,” another person remarked.

A fifth person replied: “You don’t interact with a child like that.”

But some have quickly come to Jordan’s support, with radio host and podcaster “Bubba the Love Sponge” stating: “Michael Jordan reaching into Tyler Reddick’s son’s waistband went viral quickly.”

But if you look at it carefully, you can notice pieces of ice packed into the child’s back. At first glance, it appears alarming. On a second look, it seems like someone is assisting a child who had ice forced down his shirt.

Another responded: “He’s merely amusing the child. People tend to find things that aren’t actually there!”

“Come on! This is just messing around with the child… why make a big deal out of nothing,” another person said.

Another added: “He’s likely like family to them. He’s just messing around and enjoying himself. Let the man be.”

The event risks ruining what had been otherwise a great day for Jordan and his 23XI Racing team.

A former NBA Hall of Famer embraced Reddick in the winner’s circle and subsequently raised the Harley J. Earl trophy together with the 23XI Racing driver.

Jordan, turning 63 on Tuesday, will receive a Daytona 500 ring for his birthday and mentioned in the victory lane that he wears a size 13. ‘It feels like I won a championship, but until I get my ring, I won’t even know,’ Jordan stated.

Reddick, driving a Toyota, led just one lap on Sunday: the final one to the finish line. He became the 25th unique driver to lead a lap, setting a new Daytona 500 record.

Without any victories the previous year, Reddick concentrated mainly on his newborn son Rookie following the discovery of a tumor in his chest that impacted his heart.

Jordan was the central figure in the December federal antitrust lawsuit that NASCAR resolved on the ninth day of the trial. The agreement altered the revenue distribution system in America’s premier motorsports competition.

Jordan observed the victory from a suite that offered a view of the superspeedway, constructed by the France family—founders of NASCAR and private owners—that he had recently defeated in federal court. Jim France, the NASCAR chairman and a personal defendant in the lawsuit, visited the victory lane to commend the winners.

“I can’t even believe it. It was very satisfying,” Jordan said about the win.

You can’t predict how these races will conclude. You simply focus on getting through. We remained competitive throughout the day. The team executed a fantastic plan, and we positioned ourselves well for the finish. Honestly, I’m thrilled.
