Senator John Kennedy (R-La.) is trying to convey a message to President Donald Trump and his Republican colleagues: Americans aren’t going to accept the notion that the economy is thriving when their everyday experiences tell a different story.
Kennedy told The Hillon Monday: “What you’re essentially telling people is: don’t trust your own deceptive bank statements. It’s their statements. They are looking at them. They don’t like what they see, so you need to address it.”
I truly believe that is what we should be concentrating on at the moment,” he continued. “I simply want to take action. Remaining idle is extremely difficult.
We won’t win the midterms by addressing the American people and stating, ‘Look, we passed 11 out of 12 spending bills and confirmed all of President Trump’s nominees,’ ” Kennedy continued, noting that “parents” are concerned at night “about the rising cost of living.
“In their thoughts, they’re fed up with donating blood plasma just to afford groceries,” he added.
Fox News has had difficulty discovering methodsto back Trump on this issue as well. Hosts are either attempting to justify Republican policies or endorse Trump’s claim that everything is okay.
For the last several months, Trump has been denying the existence of the “affordability crisis,” labeling it as a false narrative created by Democrats. He argues that with the stock market performing strongly, it indicates that people are also faring well.
Regrettably, high inflation persists, along with elevated costs for home heating, housing, and food. Salaries remain flat, failing to match the rate of inflation.
There is also a record level of credit card debt, with interest rates being extremely high, some approaching 30 percent. At the same time, mortgage interest rates stay within the range of 6 to 7 percent.
Surveys repeatedly indicate that U.S. citizens feel Trump has failed them economically. This was his primary concern in the 2024 election.
Voter polls have increasingly shown these and similar statistics. A December survey conducted by The Harris Poll revealed that 45 percent of Americans feel their financial stability is deteriorating, 57 percent think the nation has experienced a recession, and over half of Republican voters attribute this to Trump.
Kennedy is not the only one. Republicans acknowledge that Trump and the GOP have been delayed in realizing they have not fulfilled their campaign pledges. Not meeting these promises means MAGA needs to develop a message that persuades Americans to keep backing their candidates.
Behind the scenes, Republicans are quietly fretting.
Sen. Tommy Tuberville told The HillAre we doing enough? We aren’t doing anything at all.
