A truck driver has been directed by the Ministry of Roads and Highways to cover the expenses for fixing the North Dzorwulu Pedestrian Bridge, which is projected to cost GH¢2.5 million.
The North Dzorwulu Pedestrian Footbridge, situated on the road in the Greater Accra Region, showed noticeable cracks following a reported incident where a trailer collided with it.

As a result, sections of the structure were displaced, with some fittings damaged.
Pedestrians who relyOn the bridge, people have voiced concerns about its present state, stating they are scared to utilize it.
Several people have also urged immediate steps to avoid a possible disaster during the ongoing repair work.
Ministry of Roads PRO Comments on Footbridge Damage
As per the Public Relations Unit at theMinistry of Transportation and Highways, Nasir Ahmed Yartey, the trailer driver was arrested and is currently in police custody following the incident.
Speaking during an interview with Citi FM on Monday, 16 February 2026, he mentioned the Bridge Maintenance Unit of theGhana Highway Authoritycarried out an urgent technical examination and evaluation of the bridge following the incident.
“The matter has been brought to our notice, and the person responsible has been caught. The police are fully in charge, and we are handling it,” he stated.
Nasir Yartey stated that the inspection found considerable localized structural damage resulting from the trailer’s collision.
The cost of repairing the bridge is estimated to be approximately GH¢2.5 million, with the responsible party covering the entire expense. ‘We will make sure this happens,’ he added.
The restoration, he mentioned, is anticipated to require roughly six days to finish once a schedule is implemented.
Nasir Yartey emphasized the Ministry’s dedication to accelerate the process of bringing the bridge back to a safe condition as quickly as possible.

A resident from Pokuase raises concerns about the unsafe footbridge
A concerned citizenhas urged the government to tackle a critical safety issue at the footbridge situated at ACP Junction in Pokuase, Accra.
In a video that generated online responses, the individual, who decided not to reveal his identity, mentioned that people from Pokuase endanger themselves by using the footbridge at night.
The people stated that they decided to cross the heavily trafficked highway at night due to the risks they encountered when using the pedestrian bridge without any lighting.
As per a local resident, several people verified that the streetlights were originally put in place but, regrettably, were taken by thieves, resulting in the whole path being dark.
He mentioned that the darkness had resulted in several pedestrians being assaulted by thieves and burglars while trying to cross the bridge.
In the footage, he stepped onto the dim footbridge, indicating the vacant spots where the lights were supposed to be.

The individual called on officials to enforce stricter measures against pedestrians who disregard rules, cautioning about unavoidable accidents and incorrect responsibility being assigned when a disaster happens.
