Residents in Eleyewo Community, located in the Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State, marched through the streets on Saturday morning to demonstrate against the kidnapping of a married couple by armed robbers.

The assailants are said to have abducted Jamiu Olawale and his wife, shot someone who managed to escape, and forced other residents to run for their lives as the criminals fired randomly.

As a reaction, the furious locals obstructed the Akure-Owo Expressway in the demonstration, singing unity songs.

In a statement released on Saturday, the Police Public Relations Officer from the state command, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, confirmed the incident and mentioned that the attack took place approximately at 9:45 p.m. on Friday.

He said, “On February 20th, 2026, around 9:45 p.m., details were received about an incident involving Mr. Jamiu Olawale and his wife, who live in Olaribigba Estate, Iluabo.”

The couple had recently come back to their house in a gray Toyota Camry when they were ambushed at the entrance of their home by unidentified shooters who supposedly came out of the nearby bushes.

The assailants took the couple and quickly transported them to an undisclosed location. At the time of the event, a neighbor, Mr. Patrick Ilumaro, who was sitting in front of his home, was shot.

He was immediately taken to the hospital, where he is now undergoing medical care.

The assault occurs just two days after the ruler of Agamo Community within the same local government area, Oba Kehinde Falodun, was allegedly slain by armed criminals.

It was reported that the ruler died during a confrontation with assailants who were trying to abduct him.
