Donald Trump‘s ambassador to FranceCharles Kushner has been prohibited from meeting with government officials following his failure to appear and clarify remarks regarding a slain far-right activist.

Emmanuel MacronThe government requested on Monday that Kushner, whose son Jared is married to Trump’s daughter Ivanka, participate in a meeting with the foreign minister to address the State Department’s concerns regarding the increase of ‘violent radical leftism’ in France.

International Minister Jean-Noel Barrot called for Kushner following the US embassy in Paris sharing remarks from the Trump administration in Washington regarding the deceased far-right activist Quentin Deranque.

Deranque, 23, succumbed to head injuries after conflicts erupted between radical-left and far-right supporters in Lyon earlier this month.

The Department of State’s counter-terrorism office stated: ‘Violent radical left-wing ideology is increasing, and its involvement in Quentin Deranque’s death highlights the danger it presents to public safety.’

Barrot condemned on Sunday any efforts to use the killing “for political purposes” and called for a meeting with Kushner the next day. However, a diplomatic source revealed to media that the ambassador mentioned “personal obligations” and sent a senior embassy representative instead.

This action represents the most aggressive move by Paris directed at the Trump administration, stemming from what they perceive as ongoing efforts by Washington to meddle in French internal matters.

French diplomats had previously called Kushner in for questioning regarding his comments on France’s approach to antisemitism, but he missed that meeting in August.

“Given this evident inability to understand the fundamental aspects of the ambassadorial role and the dignity of representing one’s nation, the minister (Barrot) has asked that Kushner no longer have direct contact with French government officials,” the foreign ministry stated.

However, Kushner would be allowed to carry out his diplomatic responsibilities and engage in ‘exchanges’ with officials, according to a statement.

The Daily Mail has contacted the White House for a response.

The passing of Deranque has created a sense of unease in France, sparking conflicts between the left and right as the 2027 presidential election approaches.

Over 3,000 individuals paraded through Lyon on Saturday as a gesture of remembrance for Deranque, prompting officials to implement significant security measures due to concerns about additional confrontations.

On Friday, Sarah Rogers, the State Department’s under secretary for public diplomacy, stated that Deranque’s death highlighted ‘why we address political violence—terrorism—with such severity.’

“Once you choose to kill people because of their views rather than try to convince them, you have stepped away from being part of a civilized society,” she wrote on X.

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has also expressed her views, leading to a verbal exchange with French President Emmanuel Macron, who asked her to cease making remarks about events in other nations.

Kushner, who began his role in Paris last year, had been called to the foreign ministry at the end of August, following the French government’s disapproval of his comments suggesting Macron was not addressing antisemitism.
