Following 10 days of consistent weather in northern Morocco, the Oued Makhazine Dam still shows a continuous drop in water levels after weeks of flooding led to the temporary relocation of residents in Ksar El Kebir.

As of Tuesday, the dam’s water level was at 125%, a decrease from over 160% during the peak of the emergency, as per information from the Loukkos Hydraulic Basin Agency.

The reservoir of the dam currently contains about 845 million cubic meters of water, indicating a decline from amounts that went beyond 1 billion cubic meters in the emergency phase.

Authorities stated that the water level has decreased by 7 meters since the start of the relaxation period, with overall height reductions amounting to 65.37 meters.

The rate at which water is being released from the dam has increased to 280 cubic meters per second.

A significant portion of the flow is directed through the automatic spillway, with 45 cubic meters per second being released via the dam’s hydroelectric power station.

Even with over a week of no rain, the dam still gets water from smaller rivers flowing into the reservoir, approximately 1 million cubic meters each day.

Officials stated that the dam is still under increased surveillance, with engineers and staff performing regular daily checks to maintain its stability and identify any possible alterations.
