His disputed appointment, which faced opposition from Malaysians, was ‘sent back to the president’ last month.
A right-wing social media personality and self-proclaimed “alpha male,” Nick Adams, is said to have been removed as the United States’ nominee for ambassador toMalaysia.
Adams stated in an email to The Sydney Morning Herald that he would not take up the position of US ambassador to Malaysia and mentioned that his new role would be announced soon.
“Excellent investigative work, Mick! I’ve been elevated from the position of ambassador!” Adams wrote in the email, addressing the Herald reporter.

On Monday, Adams shared on social media regarding a “significant announcement approaching”.
Verification on the US Congress website indicates that Adams’ nomination was “returned to the president according to Senate Rule XXXI” on January 3. When a nomination is sent back to the president, it loses its chance for further Senate review.
Adams, an American citizen by naturalization who originally came from Australia, wasnominatedby the US ambassador to Malaysia, appointed by President Donald Trump on July 10 last year, along with other diplomatic appointments such as Anjani Sinha for Singapore.
Nevertheless, his nomination was never approved by the Senate and expired by the end of the year. Adams’ name did not appear on a list of renewed nominations sent to the Senate in January, nor on one submitted in February.
Adams was one of nine civilian candidates who were not included in the second list sent to the Senate in February, as per a Bloomberg review of congressional records.
Several nominations have been canceled for different reasons such as administrative adjustments, increased duties in the initial position, or fresh prospects, a White House representative informed Bloomberg Government earlier this month.
Trump’s selection of Adams caused debate because of alleged sexist comments he has made, along with criticism for his open backing of Israel in 2024.
The individual who created and promoted Trump’s “Maga” slogan, and who supported Trump in the 2024 U.S. presidential election, is also recognized for his dedication to the American restaurant brand Hooters, which has faced criticism for its treatment of women.
After being nominated, former Malaysian law minister Zaid Ibrahim referred to Adams as a “right-wing agitator and partisan provocateur,” stating he was unsuitable for the role of US ambassador because of his absence of diplomatic experience.
The youth leader of PAS in Selangor, Sukri Omar, stated that accepting Adams would be considered a direct offense to the Muslim community and Malaysians who back the Palestinians, while transport minister Anthony Loke mentioned he would object to Adams’ appointment.
