• The leadership of Nkenkaasu Senior High School has placed its Senior Housemaster, Akwasi Opoku, on leave due to claims of inappropriate behavior with three female students.

The leadership of Nkenkaasu Senior High School has put the Senior Housemaster, Akwasi Opoku, on hold due to claims of inappropriate behavior with three female students.

On Monday, February 23, 2026, in a statement issued by the second-level institution, it was mentioned that the decision was made following an evaluation of his behavior in the case.

“Management has examined your actions in a situation involving you and three female students. Your conduct in this matter is seen as unprofessional and has tarnished the reputation of the school and the Ghana Education Service,” the statement said.

According to a report published on Citinewsroom, Akwasi Opoku has therefore been instructed to temporarily leave his position asSenior Housemasterinvestigations into the claims are ongoing and additional discussions are taking place.

“Therefore, you are required to step down as Senior Housemaster of the school until further inquiry and discussions are completed. You must immediately transfer your responsibilities to the Assistant Headmaster (Domestic), without any exceptions,” the statement concluded.

Nkenkaasu Senior High Schoolalso mentioned that additional measures against the housemaster will be decided following the investigation.

Three head teachers from SHS placed on suspension

Meanwhile, the Technical and Vocational Education and Training Department has suspended three HeadsRegarding Technical Institutes and unauthorized fee collection and reported extortion.

The impacted institutions include the Agona Swedru Technical Institute located in the Central Region, theSunyani Technical Institutein the Bono Region, and the Madina Technical Institute in the Greater Accra Region.

The sanctioned headteachers are:

  • Madam Hannah Asamoah, Central Regional Director at Agona Swedru Technical Institute
  • Gabriel Gyamfi, Director of the Bono Region – Sunyani Technical Institute
  • Juliana Nkrumah, Director of the Greater Accra Region – Madina Technical College

As per a statement issued by the Ghana TVET Service, the claims include the application of various unauthorized fees, such as admission charges, boarding protocol payments, costs associated with altering residential status from day to boarding, expenses for fashion practical items, bedsheet payments, and PTA-related charges.

These charges go against the government’s Free TVET and Free SHS policy, which ensures free access to technical and vocational education.

The Service has established inquiry groups to examine the claims.

Until the investigations are completed, the leaders of the three organizations have been put on a 30-day administrative leave, effective immediately.

Throughout this time, their responsibilities have been transferred to the respective Regional Directors, who will manage the daily operations of the schools in addition to their usual tasks.

Six students from Aggrey Memorial detained

Earlier, .gh reported that six Aggrey Memorial SHSStudents were detained on suspicion of attacking a senior Adisadel College student at Pedu Junction.

The deceased, Rexford Owusu-Ansah, suffered a break near his right eye and received medical attention at the Cape Coast Regional Hospital.

The police stated that the individuals, who were subsequently transferred to the Kotokuraba Police Station, would be subjected to the full force of the law.
