The Taliban military group has launched an attack on Pakistan near the border between the two nations, according to Kabul.
“Major military operations” were a reaction to the fatal air strikes in Afghanistan this week, according to military and government sources.
A Taliban military representative stated that “intense attacks on Pakistani positions” were ongoing, noting “no losses on the Afghan side.” Another spokesperson from the Taliban administration mentioned that 15 Pakistani military posts had been seized during the operations.
The Pakistani administration did not issue an immediate response to the Afghan assertion.
A military operation comes after Pakistani attacks on Nangarhar and Paktika provinces during the night into Sunday, which the UN mission in Afghanistan reported resulted in at least 13 fatalities.
The Taliban administration stated that at least 18 individuals were killed and refuted Pakistan’s claim that the military operation resulted in over 80 militants being killed.
Both parties also mentioned incidents of cross-border fire on Tuesday, though no injuries were reported.
Tensions among neighboring nations have worsened over the past few months, with most land border checkpoints closed following violent clashes in October that resulted in over 70 fatalities on both sides.
Islamabad claims that Kabul has not taken action against militant groups responsible for attacks in Pakistan, a statement denied by the Taliban administration.
The Pakistani army carried out its newest set of aerial attacks in Afghanistan after a sequence of fatal suicide bombings.
