The rugby league community remains honoring Terry Williams, following the passing of the esteemed historian and writer at the age of 62.
Williams worked as a dedicated historian for theNSWRugby League and the Newtown Jets.
He also previously served as the curator of theNRL Museum at Sydney‘Rugby League Central’ at Moore Park.
His father was former Newtown Jets player Warren Williams.
Williams was an avid supporter of the club throughout his life, and authored the booksOut of the Blue in 1993 and Through Blue Eyes.
“The NSWRL expressed deep sorrow upon learning of the death of esteemed Rugby League historian and writer Terry Williams,” the NSWRL stated in a release.

Terry’s impact on rugby league lasted for many years, during which he emerged as one of the sport’s most informed narrators of its history.
His profound knowledge of the game, its individuals, and its narratives transformed the museum into a hub for education and engagement for many visitors.
Williams later founded the Sydney League News magazine during the 1990s.
In 2018, he authored and jointly produced the movieHeadgear to Helmets, which recounted the tale of men who transitioned from being rugby league players to wartime heroes.
Football enthusiasts have continued to celebrate Williams with many touching messages on social platforms.
“He possessed an immense amount of knowledge regarding the game’s history. Describing it as a sad loss is an understatement,” said fellow historian and commentator Andrew Ferguson.
“He is sure to be greatly missed,” another person said. “What a terrible piece of news. Very sorrowful,” another wrote.
Williams died mere hours after his favorite Jets began their 2026 campaign.
