President Donald Trump hopes the Jeffrey Epstein controversy will fade — but, as per Republican senators, this is unlikely to occur.
Republican senators are urging Attorney General Pam Bondi and the Department of Justice to disclose all documents concerning convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein that include the name of President Trump, stating that the matter will not be resolved without complete openness, reported The Hill on Thursday.
Republican senators are especially worried about Trump’s incomplete adherence to the Epstein File Transparency Act, which mandated the release of all documents, and the fact that he specifically concealed 2019 allegations from a woman claiming she was sexually abused by Trump at age 13 in the 1980s.
Release the documents,” stated Sen. John Kennedy (R-La.), a member of the Judiciary Committee. “Remove the identities of the victims. Do not release images, whether clothed or not, of children. Release the documents. This issue will not fade until there is complete transparency.
Epstein later stated, “This issue won’t fade until there is complete transparency, and the American public deserves to know, and has the right to find out, who, if anyone, Epstein transported these women to… and why they weren’t brought to trial.”
Senator Susan Collins (R-Maine) presented a quieter form of Kennedy’s critique.
“I’m not aware of the specific situation or if there are valid justifications for redactions or non-disclosure, especially since he is currently serving in office, but this appears to contradict the purpose of the law,” Collins said to The Hill.
Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), also stated, “when we enact a law that requires all documents to be disclosed, it appears to me that all documents should be made public.”
Senate Republicans are also concerned about the Trump administration’s handling of the Epstein case. An unidentified Republican senator told Semafor that Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, who was frequently mentioned in the Epstein documents, would have been dismissed “if it weren’t for President Trump” within the White House.
It’s disgusting. And everyone is aware of it,” the Republican said to Semafor. “He looked at the American people and lied shamelessly. And I believe there’s more to come.
Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.), who has also been vocal in criticizing Trump’s approach to the Epstein case, accused former Fox News host Greta Van Susteren of having “Epstein brain warm” during an appearance on her Newsmax program. Van Susteren stated that Trump’s attorney general Pam Bondi had done everything possible.
It’s as if all of you have an Epstein brain worm,” Massie wrote. “She needs to reveal more names, not fewer. Specifically, she is holding back and heavily redacting FD-302 forms and other documents that identify accomplices. Did you even watch the hearing before posting this?
Ed Gallrein, a former Navy SEAL and Army Ranger who has received Trump’s support in the upcoming primary against Massie, said of MassieI’d call him a Judas. You can’t even refer to him as a Benedict Arnold.
Massie replied, “My voters are already aware that I stand for ‘America First,’ and I’m against initiating another conflict. I’m also against spending that leads to a deficit. Furthermore, I was at the forefront of revealing several wealthy, influential, and politically connected individuals in the Epstein documents. These are the areas where I have disagreed with the president. My constituents comprehend why I have taken a different stance from the president.”
