Kim Choong-do, the son of the late fashion designer André Kim, expressed his deep yearning for his father.

Kim Choong-do, leader of André Kim Atelier, openly talked about the challenges he encountered following his father’s death in an interview with the CGN YouTube channel on the 3rd.

Kim stated, “My father died unexpectedly, and I encountered numerous difficulties. I was forced into the position without time to prepare. I learned while working, and it was very tough.” He further mentioned, “I don’t have any brothers or sisters. After living only with my father, there were many times I had to cope alone.”

He stated, “By 2024, when the company’s financial situation worsened, I felt resentment, asking myself, ‘Why must I endure this? Why did my father leave me in this position?’ and even had negative thoughts.” He added, “I went to the rooftop of a building at night and wondered, ‘Should I make a poor decision?’”

Kim attributed his regained determination to religion. He stated, “When I had negative thoughts, I heard a voice saying, ‘Come to me’ three times. That’s when I began going to church.”

Kim also discussed the challenges of being the son of André Kim. He said, “It was difficult because he was such a prominent figure,” but he also mentioned, “Looking back, I’m only thankful. I miss him very much and long to see him again.” He remembered, “Since my mother wasn’t there, he fulfilled both parental roles. He took me to school every day and handled everything from beginning to end.”

Kim stated, “His continuous focus was a heavy load back then, but now I am truly thankful. I can’t offer the same for my own kids, and I question if anyone else could show such deep care.”

Kim stated, “I experienced emotional difficulties for many years following my father’s death. I felt isolated and hollow, which resulted in trauma.” He added, “As I carry on my father’s work, I encounter reminders of him daily. Every time, I long for him. Even though I can’t see him, I sense his presence beside me.”

André Kim, who remained single throughout his life, adopted Kim when he was 18 months old in 1982 and took care of him by himself. Throughout his life, he often contributed to Goyang Middle School, where he studied, UNICEF, and Seoul National University Hospital, where he received treatment for cancer. He gave 500 million Korean won to the hospital along with a note that said, “Please develop outstanding doctors.”
