At least four individuals have lost their lives following a fatal incidenttornado ripped through the US state of Michigan.
Houses were damaged and hundreds of locals lost electricity following strong winds that swept through regions such as Three Rivers and Union City.
Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer stated on Friday that she had established a State Emergency Operations Center to manage the response and keep track of local conditions.
She wrote, ‘By undertaking this step, we can guarantee the state is able to track and address local inquiries.’
The intense storms arrived at the beginning of Michigan’s ‘twister season’, even though the state typically faces its worst weatherweather between June and August.
Images from different parts of the state revealed vehicles covered in dirt and trash, along with collapsed structures such as storage facilities.
Several south western counties, such as Branch, Cass, and Saint Joseph, reported injuries, according to the Michigan State Police.
The Branch County Sheriff’s Office reported that 12 individuals were injured, with three of them transported to the hospital.
Three individuals lost their lives due to the tornadoes, as confirmed.
A second fatality was verified by officials in Cass County.
The local police department stated that volunteers would be evaluating structural damage today.
“Please note that emergency responders will be visiting homes impacted by the tornado that occurred on Friday evening to conduct damage evaluations. Authorized personnel will be wearing bright yellow vests,” the statement said.
It urged inhabitants to “take cover right away” and stay away from shaky buildings and constructions.
The National Weather Service issued a warning on Friday that multiple storm systems would occur during the night, with certain areas facing wind speeds as high as 60mph and hail measuring up to one inch in diameter.
