Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Athar Waheed unveiled an austerity initiative for the Lahore City Traffic Police on Tuesday, considering the current global circumstances and increasing fuel costs. According to the plan, the CTO instructed all SPs, DSPs, and sector in-charges to carry out patrol duties using motorcycles rather than official vehicles to cut down on fuel use. Dr. Athar Waheed personally examined the fuel consumption of all traffic police official vehicles and issued appropriate guidelines to ensure rigorous oversight and management of gasoline usage. He emphasized that in this difficult economic climate, it was crucial to follow the government’s approach and implement actions that could assist the public. The CTO also ordered that no official vehicle would be permitted to depart from Police Lines without a duty slip, ensuring strict responsibility in the utilization of government vehicles.
He also stated that due to increasing fuel costs, the traffic police would refrain from issuing penalties to rickshaws, motorcycles, and loader rickshaws until Eid. Dr. Athar appealed to the public to minimize unnecessary travel and strictly adhere to government instructions to control fuel usage amid the present economic conditions.
