The government has given its approval to a proposed royal order calling for the assembly of parliament, although an exact date has not been determined, stated deputy government spokesperson Aiyarin Phanrit.

The order will be presented to His Majesty the King, as the election of at least 95% of all Members of Parliament — 475 out of 500 positions — has been approved.

Secretary-general of the House of Representatives, Sirote Patpan, mentioned last week that the legislative body will be prepared to move forward once the Election Commission (EC) has confirmed 499 members of parliament.

On Tuesday, Ms Aiyarin mentioned that the cabinet’s secretariat would work with the EC, the House of Representatives’ secretariat, and the Privy Council Office to decide on the schedule.

The EC must declare the outcomes within 60 days following the February 8 election or by April 8. The Parliament is then required to convene within 15 days of the declaration or by April 22.
