King Charles III welcomed members of the Nigerian community in the UK on Wednesday night during a pre-visit event, which is leading up to President Bola Tinubu’s official visit to Britain—the first by a Nigerian leader in 37 years.
The event, taking place at a secret royal location, included jollof rice and live performances from Dele Sosimi along with the Afrobeats Orchestra.
The monarchy referred to it on its official X account on Thursday as “a delightful evening.”
Last night, The King held a gathering with members of the Nigerian community in the UK, prior to the upcoming State Visit by the President of Nigeria.
“With jollof rice and music from Dele Sosimi and the Afrobeats Orchestra — it was an amazing night. Thanks to everyone who was there,” The Royal Faily stated.
President Tinubu and First Lady Oluremi Tinubu are set to visit the UK as guests of King Charles and Queen Camilla from Wednesday, March 18, to Thursday, March 19, 2026.
The final Nigerian leader who made a state visit to the United Kingdom occurred in 1989, when former military president Ibrahim Babangida was welcomed for four days by the late Queen Elizabeth II.
As Tinubu is set to arrive, British officials have unveiled extensive security protocols at Windsor.
The Thames Valley Police, in collaboration with the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, the Royal Household, and additional security organizations, stated that air space limitations around Windsor Castle would be expanded starting March 18, covering the hours from 7 a.m. until 11:59 p.m.
Chief Superintendent Adrian Hall from the Thames Valley Police’s Joint Operations Unit mentioned that armed officers, search teams, the Mounted Section, road policing units, and Project Servator resources would be stationed throughout Windsor, along with a broad closed-circuit television system and barriers designed to prevent hostile vehicle attacks.
Road closures and parking limitations will come into force on Tuesday, March 17, potentially causing short-term disruptions to roads in and near Windsor during the visit.
