President John Dramani Mahama has directed that the current hiring process for Ghana’s security forces be increased from 20,000 to 40,000 members within the next four years, as part of an effort to enhance national security throughout the nation.
The order was issued during a top-level meeting that included the Heads of Security Agencies, the Minister of Interior, and the Acting Minister of Defence, during which the President was provided with an in-depth overview of the ongoing hiring procedures.
Besides boosting the number of recruits, President Mahama highlighted that the procedure should maintain the values of openness and justice, guaranteeing that every eligible candidate is handled fairly.
Among those present were the Chief of Staff, Secretary to the President, Senior Presidential Advisor for Governmental Issues, National Security Coordinator, Inspector General of Police, Director General of Prisons, Director General of the Fire Service, Comptroller-General of the Ghana Immigration Service, and the Director General of the Narcotics Control Commission.
On behalf of the Presidency, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, MP, Minister, and Government Communications Spokesperson, affirmed the instructions, emphasizing the government’s dedication to enhancing security agencies and developing a skilled workforce to safeguard the people of Ghana.
The President’s directives signify a major expansion of the nation’s security capabilities, demonstrating continued initiatives to improve police operations, border management, and emergency services throughout every area.
