A Miami teenager admitted to causing her boyfriend’s death during a ‘horseplay’ incident involving a knife, and has pleaded guilty to manslaughter.

Jahara Malik, who is 18 years old, appeared in court wearing a beige wrap-around dress and admitted guilt after stabbing her boyfriend to death during a dispute on December 20, 2024.

Yakheim Lollar, 17, and Malik were reportedly in a dispute, as per the victim’s mother, with Lollar attempting to terminate their relationship.

Paramedics discovered Lollar with a chest injury caused by a knife in the third-floor garage of his apartment complex shortly after 11 p.m. He passed away an hour later due to his wounds.

Security camera footage showed Malik and a companion exiting a car in the parking garage, with Lollar injured in the chest and Malik dropping a knife, police reported. Miami Herlad.

Malik stated that she took the knife rather than her usual pepper spray while in a ride-share, and mentioned she was “joking around with the victim.”

The police released her until the medical examiner’s office concluded it was a murder, leading to her arrest in January 2025.

Malik was 17 years old then but faced charges as an adult. Following prior not guilty pleas, her shift in admission was not part of any agreement.

“She ended my son’s life without any justification. She took my son’s life because he truthfully told her he didn’t want to be with her,” said Nathalie Jean, Lollar’s mother.NBC 6.

And she was unaware of her actions, her behavior, and her sense of entitlement, which were the reasons he didn’t want to be with her.

Malik’s lawyer, Larry Handfield, claimed that the stabbing occurred by mistake.

“You need to realize that this was a coincidence, it wasn’t planned, and this young girl has no previous record in the juvenile system,” Handfield stated, according to the report.

“Her entire argument is nonsense. Who plays with a knife? You learn as a child not to mess with sharp objects, don’t you?” Jean said.

Judge Christine Hernandez approved Malik’s placement under house arrest during her bond court session last weekend, as reported by NBC 6. Previously, she had been permitted to leave the house while being tracked via GPS.

Jean, on the other hand, is furious about the ruling and is demanding that Malik be given the maximum penalty of 30 years in prison.

“Right now, we believe that no justice has been done. She’s still able to go out, even if they had put her in lockdown. What’s the difference between her being in jail and at home? She still can’t go anywhere, so why didn’t she remain in jail?” the victim’s mother questioned.

“I desire the maximum. That is what I want. A life for a life,” Jean stated.

The victim’s mother was accompanied by relatives, acquaintances, and schoolmates. Several individuals wore t-shirts featuring images of Lollar.

Jean is not convinced that Malik altered her plea due to genuine sincerity, and she stated to the Miami Herald: ‘I think she just doesn’t have any choices remaining.’

“I don’t believe her guilty plea is sincere, because if it were genuine, she would have accepted responsibility on the day it occurred,” she added.

Jean stated that she thinks Malik should be imprisoned, claiming the young girl is risky and lacks maturity, citing a video showing her allegedly getting into a fight at school and facing suspension, according to NBC 6.

Malik is scheduled to receive his sentence on May 5.
