Morocco will observe Eid al-Adha under regular circumstances this year, thanks to substantial government initiatives aimed at aiding the national livestock industry, according to a government representative.Mustapha Baitas said Thursday.

At a weekly press conference following a cabinet session, Baitas mentioned that the choice was made following last year’s remarkable royal call for citizens to avoid slaughtering sheep because of a significant decline in the country’s sheep population.

The government has taken substantial steps to reorganize the sector and allocated considerable financial resources,” Baitas stated, adding that the initial stage of support initiatives was carried out “effortlessly and successfully.

He mentioned that these initiatives, implemented amid difficult circumstances characterized by extended dry spells, were conducted in accordance with royal instructions and contributed to enhancing the durability of Morocco’s farming industry.

As stated by Baitas, the recent rain has also led to better grazing conditions, aiding in the recovery of livestock and facilitating the resumption of regular Eid traditions.

“The holiday will occur as usual,” he stated, noting that information about the second stage of government assistance will be revealed in the near future.

Baitas also commented on the government’s choice to restart fuel subsidies, which were initially launched in 2022 due to regional conflicts that affected supply chains and caused price increases.

He mentioned that the subsidies are mainly directed towards transport users instead of industry experts, with the objective of keeping transportation expenses steady and avoiding cost hikes for consumers, especially for basic necessities.

The authorities have announced March 20 as the beginning date for submissions via a specific digital portal, with qualification requirements and time limits detailed in an official announcement.

Baitas mentioned that earlier assessments indicated the system was easy to operate and efficient, with no significant issues noted in transportation costs, including shipping services.

“The goal is to keep transportation expenses at typical levels and guarantee that residents still enjoy consistent pricing,” he stated, adding that this decision is made during a period of significant rises in worldwide fuel costs.

He mentioned that officials are carefully observing the situation and taking simultaneous actions to reduce the effect of increasing expenses on the local market.
