A ‘free-spirited’ independent clothing store, Francesca’s, announced its intention to shut down all physical locations, with online sales already discontinued.

On Instagram, the a fashion label promoted its bleak ‘closing down’ sale, providing apparel, accessories, footwear, and presents at discounts of up to 70 percent.

“Thousands of unique accessories, gifts, and clothing items are being delivered to Francesca’s stores from warehouse distribution centers,” stated Tiger Group, the company managing Francesca’s liquidation sales, in a release.

The company stated that it will no longer be issuing gift cards, product credits, or loyalty rewards.

Even retail displays, such as garment racks and adornments, can now be bought.

Francesca’s initiated Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings in February, with only 254 Francesca’s locations still operating as of March 4.

The deadline for final submission has not been officially announced yet.

In December 2020, Francesca’s initially sought Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, stating intentions to sell the company.

The store mentioned the pandemic and increased competition from online retailers as factors contributing to the drop in sales.

At that time, the company stated that 558 out of its 700 locations would continue to operate.

Executives mentioned that the company plans to “try to rework several leases throughout this process, which could involve shutting down more boutiques.”

“The funding from Tiger will help Francesca’s initiate a sale process that will let us keep concentrating on our omni-channel approaches, enhance our boutique network, expand our customer base through brand extensions, and promote long-term, profitable growth,” stated Francesca’s CEO in a previous press release.

Francesca’s had its origins in Houston, Texas, and experienced quick growth during the mall expansion in the early 2000s. It became popular for its slim-fit jeans and accessories, and has now become a preferred choice among younger generations.
