The Kenya Defence Forceswill oversee the development of Kidundu Stadium in Vihiga County, a initiative that the government states will be finished in nine months.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony in Vihiga on Thursday, Prime Cabinet SecretaryMusalia Mudavadimentioned the announcement by the PresidentWilliam Rutomarked a major advancement in providing essential infrastructure in the area.
The venue, designed to hold 10,000 spectators, is expected to cost Sh900 million and is one of the key initiatives being carried out in the county this year.
Mudavadi mentioned that he had requested the President to contemplate providing an extra Sh100 million to enhance access to the facility.
“I have asked the President to think about providing an extra Sh100 million to assist this project, so that we can pave the road from Majengo through Kidundu Stadium and connect it to Mbale, thereby making the stadium more accessible,” Mudavadi mentioned.
He mentioned that the stadium will be capable of hosting games that comply with global standards upon completion.
“From the people of Vihiga County, I would like to express our gratitude to the President for making this vision a reality. I wish to remind the residents of Vihiga that those who started the effort to build a modern stadium in Kidundu are no longer with us, but their hopes and dreams are now becoming a reality,” he stated.
Mudavadi mentioned that the milestone marks the start of the last stage in compensating landowners impacted, a procedure he stated should be finished in two months. He pledged to those affected that proper procedures would be adhered to.
“The government aims to make sure all landowners are in a good position after they give up their land. Their efforts will not be overlooked,” he stated.

He called on citizens to back the administration, stating that its promises for growth are being carried out step by step.
He further mentioned that property owners who supported the initiative would be honored in the stadium’s Hall of Fame, as part of a deal to make over 20 acres available for building.
While visiting, the President and the Prime Cabinet Secretary also inaugurated 220 residential units as part of the Milimani Estate affordable housing initiative in Majengo, Vihiga County.
The units, consisting of nine blocks, are fully prepared and available for transfer to the recipients.
Mudavadi stated that the housing project is a component of a larger effort designed to increase housing availability and assist with sustaining incomes.
“This demonstrates the Government’s shared dedication to generating employment opportunities, strengthening communities, and increasing availability of quality housing,” he stated.
The initial stage of the Vihiga project was carried out at a cost of Sh536,180,334 through the State Department for Housing and Urban Development.
The officials also laid the cornerstone for the Mbale County Strategic Market, a Sh365 million initiative anticipated to assist roughly 1,500 vendors, as part of the government’s strategy to upgrade marketplaces and aid local enterprises.
