Three police officers and a local vigilante leader was killed during a bandit attack in Taraba state. The state’s Police Command verified the incident in a statement issued on Thursday.
The late officers, named Corporal Raphael Danjuma, Constable Ebenezer Daniel, and Police Constable Samuel Bawa, were reported to have died while carrying out their duties for the nation.
“Upon reaching the scene, the officers faced intense fire from the assailants, resulting in a violent confrontation. During the operation, the police units fought against the criminals and managed to drive them back. Bawa was first reported missing before his body was eventually found in a nearby thicket during a search mission,” the police stated.
The tragedy also took the life of 60-year-old Nutsa Tyav, the leader of the local neighborhood watch group in Tordamisa Village, whose body was discovered following the attack.
Betty Enepen Isokpan Otimenyin, the State Police Commissioner, voiced her astonishment at the fatalities. She referred to the deceased officers and vigilante leader as heroes who gave their lives while serving their communities.
