Officers from the Spanish Civil Guard retrieved the body of a Moroccan migrant on Saturday following his drowning while trying to swim to the Spanish enclave ofCeuta, local media reported.

According to El Faro de Ceuta, the young man, clad in a wetsuit and flippers, could not endure the powerful waves associated with Storm Teresa, which has been affecting the region in recent days.

The event occurred just days after another similar incident where a Moroccan migrant lost his life while arriving at a rocky area called “Beniño,” located near the Juan XXIII neighborhood, increasing the total number of migrant fatalities in recent days to at least 12.

The report mentioned that a number of migrants have tried to arrive at Ceuta by swimming through hazardous paths, even though the sea conditions are challenging due to continuous weather disruptions.

Search and rescue teams have increased sea patrols and emergency actions due to the rise in dangerous crossing attempts.
