The charge for green jet fuel on flights leaving Singapore has been delayed because of the effects of the conflict in the Middle East, according to the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) on March 25.

As reported by The Straits TimesThe additional fee will now be applicable to travelers departing from Singapore starting January 1, 2027, for those with flight tickets purchased from October 1, 2026.

It was previously intended to cover travelers departing Singapore from October who had purchased tickets from April 1.

Travelers departing from Singapore starting January 1, 2027, will be charged a fee ranging from SGD1 to 41.6 (US$0.78-32.45), with the funds used to acquire sustainable aviation fuel, primarily derived from waste products like recycled cooking oil.

CAAS stated that the delay was determined considering the effects of the continuous conflict in the Middle East on airlines and travelers.

Han Kok Juan, head of CAAS, stated that Singapore is strongly dedicated to reducing carbon emissions in aviation.

Singapore had previously aimed for sustainable aviation fuel to account for 1% of all jet fuel consumed at Changi and Seletar airports by 2026, with an objective of increasing this range to between 3% and 5% by 2030.
