WASHINGTON – On Thursday, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that he is prolonging his hold on potential strikes against Iran’s energy facilities by 10 days, pushing the deadline to April 6.

This essentially implies that Trump’s deadline for Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz has also been delayed until that date. He further stated on social media that discussions with Iran are “progressing very well,” even though Iran had previously rejected a U.S. ceasefire proposal the day before.

The extension, which Trump claimed was requested by the Iranian government, came after he ordered on Monday to delay any attacks on Iranian power plants for five days. This followed his weekend threat to destroy them if Tehran did not fully reopen the vital shipping route within 48 hours.

On Thursday, Trump stated that the 10-day break will continue until April 6 at 8 p.m. in Washington.

Following the airstrikes initiated by the United States and Israel on February 28, Iran responded with attacks on Israel and Gulf countries, leading to the closure of a critical waterway that plays a key role in the global trade of oil and natural gas.
