The British Navy has beencompelled to use a German frigateafter ‘running out of vessels’ – asDonald Trumpridiculed Britain’s aircraft carriers as ‘toys’

The destroyer HMS Dragon was scheduled to lead aNatomission in the North Atlantic before it was moved to Cyprus earlier this month following theIran conflict.

The U.S. Navy will take charge of the NATO operation, utilizing the German frigate FGS Sachsen.

The development followed the US President’s recent criticism of Britain’s military, stating that UK aircraft carriers “aren’t the best,” and remarked, “They’re just toys compared to what we have.”

Last night, former high-ranking officials labeled the Government as a ‘complete disgrace,’ while a veteran from the Royal Marine during World War Two expressed fury, saying, ‘Winston Churchill would have dismissed all of them.’

The backlash follows just weeks after the UK received financial assistance fromFrance, Greece and Italywhen an Iranian drone struckRAFAkrotiri in Cyprus, with not a single British vessel ready to protect it.

It took almost a month for the HMS Dragon to arrive at the Mediterranean island, prompting Cypriots to demand the removal of British military installations from their nation.

Currently, the absurdity has escalated, revealing how limited the UK’s defense capacities are.

With experts urging Labour to take control, Defence Secretary John Healey stated he was ‘unhappy with the current situation,’ noting that ‘it takes six years to construct a warship.’

However, despite repeated commitments to increase military expenditure, it was revealed yesterday that NATO has lowered the UK’s defense spending in its yearly report.

General Secretary Mark Rutte released data indicating that the UK allocated 2.31 percent of its GDP to defense in the previous year, a decrease from the expected 2.4 percent.

The report also reduced Britain’s expenditure for 2024 from a projected 2.33 percent of GDP to a final amount of 2.28 percent.

UK military officials state that there has been no decrease, and the decline is due to adjustments in GDP, as other countries are also seeing comparable updates.

But as frustration grew, former NATO commander General Sir Richard Shirreff told the Daily Mail that the recent incident involving FGS Sachsen “sends a terrible message.”

He stated, “It is extremely humiliating and it weakens the purpose of what we ought to be accomplishing as a country. The Government must take on some sacrifices. We cannot continue pouring funds randomly into social welfare.”

Labour’s backbench members must either support or remain silent – and Keir Starmer needs to take control of his party.

A 102-year-old Royal Marine veteran, Doug Cheshire, who fought on two battleships and an aircraft carrier during World War II, said to the Daily Mail: ‘I think it’s a terrible shame. They should be severely reprimanded for this. If Churchill were still alive, he would fire all of them. He would be furious about the condition of the Navy.’

I’m furious. I’m extremely distressed. Considering everything we’ve been through, for them to put us in this dangerous situation, to take loans from the Germans to perform a task we should be capable of handling – they deserve to be held accountable for this.

This week, the German Embassy disclosed that its frigate will ‘take over from HMS Dragon’, presenting it as ‘an indication of the strong Germany-British ties’.

The Ministry of Defence confirmed that British sailors will employ the ship to “fulfil its leadership role.”

It claimed that it is typical for a NATO group to be directed from an allied warship and guided by Royal Navy combat personnel.

However, Tory MP and former Army officer Ben Obese-Jecty stated that it shows the UK has ‘apparently run out of vessels’ and ‘Britannia no longer commands the seas’.

Former Chief of the Naval Staff, Admiral Lord West, stated to the Daily Mail that NATO allies “are recognizing that we are not the power we used to be.”

He stated: “The Royal Navy was the second strongest navy within NATO and the most formidable naval force in Europe.”

You can’t really claim that anymore. Our American allies are already observing us and saying, ‘Oh dear, this isn’t the Britain we’re familiar with.’

The Secretary of Defence was brought before the media yesterday to justify the recent scandal.

Mr. Healey said to LBC’s Nick Ferrari, “The Germans have come forward to provide their warship… that demonstrates the power of the NATO alliance.”

But I’m not satisfied with the current state of affairs involving British warships, and the reason for this is that it takes six years to construct a warship.

However, Mr. Healey tripped up when questioned about the number of frigates he had available, incorrectly saying, “We have 17 frigates and destroyers. It’s decreased from 23 at the end of the previous Labour administration.”

In reality, the number is 13.

A Ministry of Defence spokesperson stated: “The UK ranks among the leading defense spenders within NATO countries, and according to these numbers, our expenditure has risen by nearly £9 billion since 2023 – a notable increase in real terms.”

We hold a leading position within the alliance, fully committing our nuclear deterrent to NATO and providing nearly all of our military forces to NATO for operations on land, in the air, and at sea.

We are providing the biggest continuous rise in military funding since the conclusion of the Cold War, with a commitment of £270 billion for defence during this parliamentary term.
