Under the guidance of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, Earth Hour was celebrated throughout the province with extensive involvement, as lights were turned off and candles were lit to encourage energy saving and environmental consciousness. The event was held in all divisions and districts, with over 500 sites participating in the symbolic act, according to a statement released here on Saturday.

Government agencies, including those of commissioners and deputy commissioners, participated in the lights-off initiative as part of the campaign. Additionally, street lights on major roads in key cities were switched off to show a collective effort towards environmental protection and sustainable energy consumption. Significant involvement was noted in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Sahiwal, Multan, Bahawalpur, and Dera Ghazi Khan, where both public and private buildings took part in the event. In Murree, special arrangements were made for Earth Hour, which was celebrated on Mall Road and nearby areas, with candles lit at the amphitheatre. Residents, visitors, and officials actively took part in the event, highlighting strong community involvement and increasing awareness about environmental preservation.

Educational institutions throughout Punjab, such as schools and colleges, also took part in Earth Hour, during which students were informed about the significance of saving energy, climate accountability, and safeguarding the environment. This effort highlighted the provincial government’s dedication to fostering a sustainable lifestyle, shared responsibility, and improved environmental practices across the region.
