Shortly after Donald Trump shared online that he is thinking about demolishingIran’s entire power infrastructureand desalination facilities, MS NOW host Jonathan Lemire and national security analyst David Rohde voiced surprise that the president is acknowledging that he iswilling to commitwhat are unquestionably war crimes.
Returning from a commercial break, Lemire revealed that the president had shared, in part, on Truth Social, “… if the Hormuz Strait is not immediately ‘”Open for Business,We will end our pleasant ‘stay’ in Iran by detonating and completely destroying all of their Electric Power Stations, Oil Wells, and Kharg Island (and potentially all desalination plants as well), which we have deliberately left untouched so far. This will serve as retaliation for the numerous soldiers, and others, that Iran has brutally killed and murdered throughout the previous Regime’s 47-year ‘Era of Terror.’
After reviewing the president’s statement, Lemire noted, “This is a remarkable threat coming from the president. So there are two key points: first, do we have any evidence that these are indeed a new administration in power and that these discussions are leading anywhere? Secondly, explain what it would mean if the president carries out these threats, which some have already labeled as war crimes targeting power stations and desalination plants. The consequences for Iran in the region would be significant.”
Rohde agreed.

This tweet is shocking. Destroying all of a country’s power plants constitutes a war crime,” he said to Lemire, adding, “This is what Russia is doing in Ukraine. Additionally, it’s remarkable that they are also targeting ‘and possibly all desalination plants.’ These are water facilities that the entire region depends on.
You would, I mean, the Iranians attacked one desalination plant in the Gulf, and it caused a lot of panic because large cities rely on these plants for their water supply,” he added. “So Tehran itself would face issues if the U.S. did that. Riyadh would have to be evacuated. Dubai would have to be evacuated. This is an entirely new form of warfare that he’s referring to. And once again, these are war crimes. This is the American president stating that we will threaten to do this to you.
“It’s impossible to emphasize enough, those would constitute war crimes,” Lemire repeated.
