A leading CEO and mother of three was fatally injured when a tour vehicle flipped over in Nicaragua.
Kasey Grelle, 41, passed away during a family trip with her husband, musician Dave Grelle, and their three children, leaving one of her sons in critical condition after the accident.
The mother was the founder and chief executive officer of Aux Insights, a marketing firm that focuses on assisting private equity companies in expanding and developing their businesses.
The family was aboard a tourist transport truck believed to have 28 international passengers when the open-air vehicle veered out of control and rolled down a hill at the Rancho Santana resort in Tola.
Grelle succumbed to her wounds during transport to the hospital.
Her 11-year-old son, Julian, has been transported by air to a children’s hospital in St. Louis,Missourifollowing head injuries, skull fractures, and a punctured lung.
Over 20 individuals, among them kids, sustained injuries in the accident, as reported by the Nicaraguan media TN8.
Grelle’s brother Andy Joyce stated that their family was ‘devastated’ in a social media update.Facebook.
“Kasey was among the most intelligent, determined, and altruistic individuals I have ever encountered,” he wrote.
She was determined in all her actions, particularly when it involved aiding her people.
Her husband Dave also released a series of tributes after her passing, writing: ‘This isn’t real. I miss her terribly.’
I believed we would grow old side by side, forever in love. We struggled so much for one another. We shared so many joyful moments together.
He said: ‘She was a hero to our children… There’s a gap in my world.’
A GoFundMe page, initiated to assist the children, has collected over $310,000 (£234,000) by Sunday, exceeding the original $250,000 target.
The family encounters significant financial difficulties because of the expenses related to Julian’s medical treatment, burial costs, and the loss of their main income source.
Grelle took on the role of the family’s main provider in 2016, after her husband was hit by a car while walking and almost lost his life.
The mother gave birth soon after and helped support the family while Dave managed ongoing pain.
At the same time, Grelle took over as CEO of the digital media company Quillt, which was $40 million in debt.
By 2020, she had successfully revived the company’s success. It had settled its debts and was generating millions in revenue, as mentioned in a 2021 interview withBiz Journals.
The mother initially worked as a television news reporter before transitioning into the field of finance following her MBA from Washington University in St. Louis.
The Nicaraguan National Police continue to examine the details surrounding the accident.
