Two U.S. aviators who became trapped in Iran following the crash of their F-15 fighter jet wasshot downA search and rescue mission led to the recovery of Friday, as President Donald Trump announced late Saturday night.

“WE HAVE HIM! My fellow Americans, during the last several hours, the United States Military carried out one of the most courageous Search and Rescue Missions in American history, for one of our outstanding Crew Member Officers, who is also a very highly regarded Colonel, and I am delighted to inform you that he is now SAFE AND SOUND!” Trumpwroteon his social media site Truth Social.

Under my orders, the U.S. Military deployed numerous aircraft, equipped with the deadliest weapons available globally, to bring him back. He was injured, but he will recover fully. This incredible Search and Rescue mission follows a previous successful retrieval of another courageous pilot, which we did not announce, as we didn’t want to risk our second rescue operation.

A pilot was saved on Friday, while the other was recovered early Sunday morning local time, according to U.S. officials.told CBS News.

The pilots were involved in the U.S.-Israeli campaign against Iran, which began in late February under the title Operation Epic Fury. Within three days of the fighting starting, by March 3, 13 U.S. military personnel had lost their lives, along with 3,527 Iranians, including 1,606 civilians, 244 of whom were children, according toreporting from Reuters.

The effective rescue mission led Trump to make an uncommon appeal for cooperation between Republicans and Democrats.

“The fact that we managed to carry out both of these operations, with not a single American killed or injured, once more demonstrates that we have attained complete Air Control and Superiority over the Iranian airspace,” Trump wrote.
