Bayern Munich, the leading football club in Germany, won the first match of the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals against Real Madrid, with South Korean national team defender Kim Min-jae remaining on the bench, thus creating a good opportunity to reach the semifinals.

Munich won 2-1 against Real on the 8th (Korean time) at Santiago Bernabéu in Madrid, Spain, with Luis Díaz scoring the first goal in the first half and Harry Kane netting the crucial goal at the beginning of the second half. By achieving a tough away win, Munich has secured a strong position to guarantee their place in the Champions League semifinals during the second leg at home.

Munich went ahead in the 41st minute of the first half when Serge Gnabry delivered an outstanding through ball near the penalty area, and left forward Luis Díaz expertly broke through to finish the pass with a accurate shot into the lower right corner.

Real made a try to make a comeback in the second half, but Kane completely crushed their chances. Right at the beginning of the second half, Munich’s Alexander Pavlovic won the ball from Real in midfield thanks to a strong physical confrontation and passed it to right winger Michael Olise. Olise lured the Real defense with a dribble along the side and made an outstanding pass to Kane, who was unguarded near the arc.

Harry Kane received the pass, controlled the ball, and struck a low shot from outside the penalty area that found its way into the bottom right corner of the net, adding to Munich’s lead.

Real Madrid closed the gap to a single goal in the 29th minute of the second half as Kylian Mbappé scored from a low cross delivered by Trent Alexander-Arnold, who made a sharp run into the right side, but Munich defended strongly to achieve a close one-goal win on the road. Munich kept Jonathan Tah and Dayot Upamecano as their central defensive duo, while Kim Min-jae unfortunately did not get the opportunity to play.

In another Champions League quarter-final first leg, Arsenal managed a close 1-0 win over Sporting CP in an away match held in Lisbon, Portugal, while also securing a strong position to progress to the semifinals. Arsenal had difficulty penetrating Sporting’s defense, but eventually broke the deadlock when Gabriel Martinelli executed a powerful run down the left side into the central area and delivered an accurate pass to Kai Havertz, who was moving into the space behind the defensive line. Havertz took control of the ball and shot it into the lower left corner, scoring the match-winning goal.
