The United States and Iran have essentially reached a two-week truce and the resumption of traffic through the Strait of Hormuz. After U.S. President Donald Trump announced a halt to attacks on Iran for two weeks, provided there is a ceasefire and the opening of the Strait of Hormuz, Iran also stated that the two nations have agreed to a two-week pause in hostilities as declared by President Trump.
As reported by Iranian local media, such as Nour News, on the 7th, Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) stated that the United States has completely agreed to the 10-point peace plan put forward by Iran.
The SNSC remarked, “Iran has secured a significant triumph and compelled the United States to agree to Iran’s 10-point plan,” and further noted, “According to this plan, the U.S. committed to ensuring non-aggression, allow Iran to maintain authority over the Strait of Hormuz, acknowledge enrichment processes, remove all primary and secondary sanctions, end all resolutions from the United Nations Security Council and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Board of Governors, offer compensation to Iran, withdraw U.S. military forces from the Middle East, and stop all hostilities on every front.”
The council also stated that Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has chosen to conduct talks in Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan, on the 10th, to wrap up the details of the “victory.” It further mentioned, “Our goal is to make sure that Iran’s success on the battlefield is also acknowledged in political discussions within a maximum of 15 days.”
Additionally, it was stated, “Iran will only agree to the cessation of hostilities if the principles set forth in the 10-point plan are accepted and all specifics are concluded through discussions.” It also noted, “Iran has set aside two weeks for this procedure,” and added, “This timeframe may be prolonged by mutual consent.”
The SNSC highlighted, “The ongoing talks represent a national discussion and a continuation of the battlefield,” and called upon, “Have faith in and back this initiative, and avoid any statements that create division.” In closing, it noted, “We have our fingers on the trigger, and we will react with full strength instantly if the enemy commits the smallest error.”
Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi mentioned that should hostilities against Iran stop, Iran would also cease its attacks, and with cooperation from the Iranian armed forces, secure transit through the Strait of Hormuz for a period of two weeks.
Previously, President Trump declared a two-week pause in attacks against Iran. On the same day, President Trump wrote on Truth Social, “Provided Iran agrees to fully, immediately, and safely open the Strait of Hormuz, we will halt bombing and attacks on Iran for two weeks,” and mentioned, “This will be a mutual ceasefire.”
He stated, “We have obtained a 10-point plan from Iran,” and mentioned, “We feel it offers a practical foundation for discussions.” He further said, “Many matters have already been settled between the U.S. and Iran, but the two-week period will assist in completing and reinforcing these accords.” He ended by saying, “As the U.S. President and on behalf of Middle Eastern countries, I am profoundly proud that this long-standing matter has moved into a resolution stage.”
Amid these changes, Israel is said to have also accepted a two-week truce. Reuters quoted two White House sources, stating that “Israel has also agreed to the two-week ceasefire declared by President Trump.”
