- A mother casts her two daughters into a river
- A court is waiting for her mental health ruling.
Two young girls were thrown into a river by their mother, even though they were not skilled swimmers, after she instructed them to “go to God,” according to what the court was told.
A 39-year-old woman faced charges for allegedly trying to drown her daughters in the Georges River located in Liverpool, which is in the southwest part of Sydney, on September 11, 2023.
The mother and two daughters cannot be identified due to legal constraints.
Police located the woman in the area following her fall from the Light Horse Bridge. Her daughters were rescued from the river by asomeone who passed by more than two hours later.
The woman subsequently showed up at Parramatta District Court on Tuesday.
Court documents, seen by news.com.au, included agreed facts, which were not disputed, that described the events of the incident.
They disclosed that the woman informed the children they would not be attending school on September 11, 2023, and that she had a ‘surprise’ in store before leading them to Light Horse Bridge.
After leading them to a grassy spot approximately 1.8 meters above the river, she inquired of one daughter whether she wished to “go to heaven now,” but the young girl replied: “No, I have a bright future.”

When the mother mentioned she could “handle those tasks in heaven,” the girl responded, “Thanks, but I want to become a police officer when I’m older.”
The woman hurled the young girl into the water and then her second daughter, while inquiring if she wished to ‘go to god’.
The court papers mentioned that the two daughters were “inexperienced” swimmers who “iImmediately experienced difficulty breathing in the water.
“The accused observed them as they pleaded and begged to be released from the river,” the document stated.
They shouted, ‘We have learned our lesson, kindly allow us to return.’
The young women drifted along the river, embracing each other, for approximately two hours until their cries were detected and they were rescued by a passerby, according to court records.
One of them said to the stranger, “She needed a break from all the noise, she longed for peace and quiet, she brought us here, and then drove back in the car.”
Mum asked, ‘Do you want to go to God?’ I replied, ‘I don’t want to, I have many things left to do here,’ but she didn’t pay attention and still put me into the water.
The woman jumped off the bridge but lived through the 7-meter drop. The records mentioned that she informed paramedics that voices had told her to ‘kill yourself’ for more than a year.
The document also indicated that the mother reportedly informed her ex-partner that she had been encountering ‘spirits’ and ‘evil’ forces in her house.
She stated she purchased a “Native American teepee tent, tarot cards, and spices” online to “remove the evil from the house.”
Judge Huw Baker SC is scheduled to deliver a mental health ruling on Wednesday. Following this, it will be determined if the mother is fit to face trial.
