The globe exhaled a sense of ease last night followingDonald Trumpagreed upon a two-week truce withIranminutes prior to carrying out his threat to eliminate ‘a whole civilization’.

The U.S. President was mere hours away from launching a severe assault on Iran’s bridges and power facilities if it failed to allow access through the Strait of Hormuz by 8 p.m. EST (1 a.m. BST) prior to critical negotiations, which ultimately led him to retract his threat once more.

Expectations of a possible agreement first emerged around 8:15 pm following the Prime Minister ofPakistan, which has been serving as an intermediary between the two conflicting nations, called on President Trump to prolong his approaching deadline.

‘Diplomatic initiatives aimed at achieving a peaceful resolution to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East are advancing consistently, effectively, and with significant momentum,’ Shehbaz Sharif stated on X, urging for a two-week ceasefire involving all sides.

Both Trump and Tehran learned about the suggestion within the hour and began talking about it.

The U.S. President stated that both sides were engaged in ‘intense discussions’ but did not specify the nature of their talks, while Iran was reported to be ‘reviewing the proposal favorably.’

As the clock approached 1 a.m., missiles kept falling across the Middle East, with Israel, the UAE, and Qatar compelled to shoot down multiple drones targeting cities inside their territories.

At the same time, US bombers were also in motion, with one aircraft carrying weapons having been observed earlier departing from RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire, apparently heading toward Iran for another bombing mission.

Just before 10pm, according to CNN, a regional source indicated that ‘some positive developments are anticipated from both parties soon,’ with an agreement expected to be finalized on Tuesday night.

Subsequently, in a dramatic last-minute action as his deadline neared, the US President stepped away from the edge after effective discussions.

At 11:32 pm – less than 90 minutes prior to the deadline – Trump declared on his Truth social media platform that he had decided to halt the destructive strike for two weeks provided Tehran fully reopened the Strait of Hormuz.

Mr. Trump had cautioned that Iran’s entire civilization would perish if the regime did not show any indication of supporting a ceasefire. However, as Pakistan worked to facilitate a ceasefire agreement, Mr. Trump mentioned that Iran had presented a ten-point plan to conclude the conflict.

In a social media post, the US President stated: ‘After discussions with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir of Pakistan, who asked me to delay the destructive force heading to Iran tonight, I have agreed to pause the bombing and attack on Iran for two weeks, provided the Islamic Republic of Iran fully, immediately, and safely opens the Strait of Hormuz.’

This will be a two-sided ceasefire! The rationale behind this is that we have already achieved and surpassed all military goals, and are significantly advanced in a clear agreement regarding long-term peace with Iran, as well as peace in the Middle East.

We obtained a 10-point proposal from Iran, and think it serves as a viable foundation for discussions. Most of the previous issues of disagreement between the United States and Iran have been resolved, but a two-week period will provide time to finalize and complete the Agreement.

Iran agreed to the ceasefire plan after intense diplomatic work by Pakistan and a final push from China, according to Tehran sources who spoke to the New York Times.

They mentioned that the ceasefire was endorsed by Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, and they consented to resume operations in the Strait, the tight entrance of the Persian Gulf, during the following two weeks under military supervision.

The Iranian Supreme National Security Council announced that discussions with the United States will start in Islamabad from Friday, yet cautioned that the meetings “do not indicate the end of the conflict.”

“Our hands stay on the trigger, and if the enemy makes the smallest mistake, it will be met with full strength,” it added.

A representative from the White House additionally mentioned that Israel had also consented to a temporary truce.

The sudden declaration followed the US attack on Kharg Island yesterday, with Israel targeting bridges, railways, and roads throughout the Islamic republic, as the two allies seemed to be preparing for a significant intensification of hostilities.

In reply, Iran called on ‘all young people, athletes, artists, and university students’ to create ‘human chains’ on its bridges and near its power stations.

A large number of people assembled at the locations, as Vice President J D Vance ominously stated to Tehran: ‘We have methods in our arsenal that we have not yet chosen to employ.’ The White House refuted Mr. Vance’s claim of threatening to use nuclear weapons.

Earlier, Mr. Trump increased the tension with a fiery message on Truth Social. He stated: “A whole civilization will perish tonight, never to be restored. I don’t want that to occur, but it likely will.”

After the ultimatum, he then asked if ‘perhaps something remarkably amazing could occur’.

As a clear demonstration of Mr. Trump’s determination, the US targeted Kharg Island, the regime’s vital economic hub that processes 90 percent of its oil exports.

They struck over 50 locations, once more fueling rumors that the US might conduct a high-risk Special Forces operation to capture the area as a bargaining chip in negotiations.

As critics demanded the President’s resignation following his violent statement, Israel also targeted the Islamic regime.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated, “We are intensifying our efforts to dismantle the terrorist regime in Iran.”

The Israeli Defense Forces targeted the Yahya Abad railway bridge in the central city of Kashan, according to state-controlled media, which reported two fatalities.

The assaults follow the Israeli military advising Iranians to avoid using trains for their safety until 9pm local time.

Rail operations have been halted indefinitely in Mashhad, Iran’s second-largest city, according to authorities who referenced Israel’s ‘morally wrong’ alert.

The government also encouraged residents to create ‘human daisy chains’ around its power stations and shared disturbing promotional videos showing people holding hands around military facilities.

The Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps reacted to the US escalation by cautioning nearby nations that its ‘restraint has ended’. The US embassy in Bahrain advised all American citizens to stay indoors. The regime targeted a petrochemical facility in Saudi Arabia, while the Houthis, its terrorist affiliate in Yemen, were seen apparently getting ready for military operations.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stated: ‘Over 14 million dedicated Iranians have already signed up to lay down their lives in defense of Iran. I myself have been, am, and will continue to be committed to offering my life for Iran.’

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio claimed the government had ‘broken every known law’ by closing the strait.

There is increasing worry that Mr. Trump has turned ‘unhinged’ following his post on Sunday: ‘Open the damn Strait, you crazy bastards, or you’ll be living in Hell’.

He has also warned of sending Iran “back to the Stone Age” and has consistently threatened to obliterate its nuclear facilities – an action that would almost certainly constitute a war crime.

In response to his latest warning, Anthony Scaramucci, who previously held the role of the President’s communications director, stated: ‘Be alert: he is advocating for a nuclear attack. Take immediate action to remove him.’

Joe Kent, who stepped down as the US counter-terrorism official last month due to the conflict, stated: ‘If he tries to destroy Iranian culture, the United States will no longer be seen as a stabilizing force globally, but as a source of disorder – effectively ending our position as the world’s leading superpower.’

Pope Leo XIV stated that Mr. Trump’s warnings directed at the Iranian population were ‘deeply unacceptable’.

At a papal retreat, the leader stated: ‘There are definitely matters of international law involved, but it goes beyond that. It’s a moral concern, for the benefit of all people.’
