- She has been convicted of four charges
A childcare worker from Sydney has received a prison sentence following a conviction for revealing a three-year-old boy’s genitalia and pulling two other children.
Anna Marie Gewargis, 33, received a prison term of two years and 10 months on Friday, with a minimum of 23 months before she becomes eligible for parole.
Court documents, seen by The Daily Telegraph, stated that during a month in 2024, she sexually touched and attacked a three-year-old boy, as well as two other children. She was convicted of all four charges.
The events occurred at an unlicensed childcare center named Little Arias, which was run from a residence in the wealthy neighborhood of Denham Court, located in southwest Sydney.
In one case, Gewargis took a three-year-old child as he exited a restroom and asked him, “Show me your penis,” according to the court. Feeling ashamed, the child moved away from her.
The judge was informed that she lowered his trousers and underwear, seized his penis, and remarked: “Look how large his penis is; can you imagine how big his father is?”
Judge Maryanne Higginson mentioned that she later stated she intended to marry the boy’s father.
The court was informed that Gewargis also tried to get the three-year-old to consume a cucumber.

She was convicted of attacking two other boys, in each instance grabbing them by the arm and dragging them across the floor into a room where they began to cry.
A colleague, who is believed to have been a good friend ofGewargis informed the children’s parents about the daycare worker, the court was told.
During the trial, the colleague mentioned that she saw Gewargis throw a child into a room “like a dog.”
A janitor observed comparable actions concerning another child, as stated in their sworn statement provided to the court.
“This is my work… I am the one who completed the course and worked at various childcare centers, and this is how I was trained,” Gewargis said to the cleaner, as stated in the affidavit.
You aren’t able to show kindness towards the children.
The cleaner informed the court that Gewargis repeatedly pulled a child, to the extent that the boy would “simply begin to cry… upon seeing Anna.”
Gewargis denied the accusations and, in her own sworn statement to the court, claimed the allegations were false.

Gewargis also stated in court that her former friend, who served as a crucial witness throughout the five-day trial, was driven by a personal grudge.
The employee was convicted, and Judge Higginson mentioned that her actions constituted a violation of parents’ confidence.
“Moving children by force from one room to another as a form of punishment constitutes serious instances of common assault,” Judge Higginson stated, according to the report.
This act is condemnable, there is no question about it.
The lawyer of Gewargis, Jason Sirrie, stated that his client’s actions were ‘isolated’ and ‘spontaneous’.
He asked that she be given a community-based sentence instead of going to prison, pointing out that she had no major criminal record or family assistance.
However, Judge Higginson declined and ordered her to serve time in prison, informing the court that she had not demonstrated remorse for her deeds and maintained her claim of innocence.
Gewargis has filed an appeal against the guilty verdicts and her sentence. The case will go back to court next week, where an appeal date will be determined.
